Name 100 Challenge Rules

The rules are simple on purpose — the challenge is your memory, not the instructions.

The basics

  1. Pick a challenge and hit start. You get 10:00 on the clock.
  2. The timer starts with your first submitted answer, not on page load.
  3. Type one name, press Enter. Each accepted answer appears in your list.
  4. No duplicates — matching ignores case, spaces, and hyphens.
  5. The run ends when you reach 100, the timer hits 0:00, or you tap Give Up.
  6. Your score, time used, and personal best appear on the end screen, ready to share.

The timer

Ten minutes is the canonical length from the original stream challenge — long enough to feel generous, short enough to cause panic at the halfway mark. The timer turns red under 30 seconds. There is no pause button; that's a feature.

The honor system (trust mode)

Women, men, and fictional women run on trust mode: any non-empty answer counts, exactly like the original challenge on stream. We could verify against a database — we choose not to, because arguing about whether your aunt's neighbor counts is half the fun. Play honest, or the score means nothing.

Hard mode: validated lists

The Pokémon and animals variants check every answer against a real bundled list. Only genuine answers score — spelling is forgiving (case, hyphens, and plural forms all match), but invented entries are rejected. If trust mode feels too soft, this is your hard mode.

FAQ

When does the timer start?

The 10:00 countdown starts the moment you submit your first answer, not when the page loads — so you can read the rules calmly first.

What is the honor system?

Trust-mode variants (women, men, fictional women) accept any entry. We deliberately don't verify them — the original stream challenge worked the same way. The fun only works if you're honest with yourself.

Do duplicates count?

No. Answers are deduplicated case-insensitively, so 'Oprah' and 'oprah' are the same entry. Plural and singular forms of the same word also count once.

Is there a hard mode?

The validated variants (Pokémon, animals) are the hard mode: every answer is checked against a real list, so guesses and typos don't score. Trust mode is the classic party version.

Can I pause the timer?

No. Ten minutes is ten minutes — pausing would defeat the entire point of the challenge.
